Janis Clifton

Janis has spent much of her life working with and around horses. Twenty years ago, while pursuing a graduate program in teaching and working in high schools, she discovered therapeutic riding and horsemanship. Watching students struggle with academics, particularly those with disabilities, inspired her to explore how her experience with horses could make a difference. After visiting a therapeutic riding center, she realized that combining her skills in education and horsemanship could have a profound impact on people's lives.

In 2004, Janis founded a new therapeutic riding center, which continues to thrive today. At this center, she wore many hats, including instructor, program director, and horse care provider. After relocating to Maryland with her husband, she sought out centers where she could continue her work as an instructor and found a position at Promise Landing Farm. Her hard-working, organized, and eager-to-learn nature has made her an invaluable member of the team.

Janis has witnessed many lives transformed through the work done with horse partners. She is proud to be part of an organization that brings these essential services to areas where they were previously unavailable.
