Why She Loves PLF

Her favorite aspects of the farm are the horses and the volunteers, who together create a magical and inclusive environment for everyone involved.

Emily Hanna

Program Director and PATH CTRI

Emily's journey with horses began at the age of 10 when she started working at the local barn where she took lessons and boarded her horse. Over the years, she gained comprehensive equine knowledge and management skills by performing a wide range of tasks, from mucking stalls and facility maintenance to assisting vets and farriers. In high school, she volunteered at Maryland Therapeutic Riding, which sparked her interest in combining her love for horses with serving people.

While pursuing her education, Emily worked with the Retired Racehorse Project and interned with Art with a Heart, gaining valuable experience in the non-profit sector and working hands-on with diverse communities. She also dedicated over 200 hours to volunteering with youth at the Hampden Family Center and Living Classroom Foundation. These experiences honed her communication and listening skills, and taught her the importance of supporting others and working with humility.

Emily's passion for Promise Landing Farm stems from her unique combination of equine skills and her dedication to community service. She believes deeply in the organization's mission to bring the community together, foster connections with horses, and model inclusivity.
